We strive to offer children a program that is affordable, fun and safe. One of the key elements of this program is “play!" Through play, children increase their social competence and emotional maturity. Activities will include indoor and outdoor sports, group games, arts & crafts, music, dance and occasional field trips. Each day quiet time will also be offered for participants to complete daily homework.A parent handbook has been prepared for your convenience. It informs you of our policies and procedures as well as to provide valuable information to help you to navigate the many details involved with this program.  We ask that you keep this handbook in a handy place for easy reference, or please find a copy on our website (below) for your convenience. Jack Elementary Schools.Where: George E. Jack Elementary School. Participants who do not attend George E. Jack during the day will be transported by the MSAD6 transportation department. Parents are responsible for making sure to set up transportation with the department. Drop off and pick up are at the side entrance of George E. Jack. Before School Program (BSP): Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m., excluding all school vacations, inservice days, holidays, or snow days at G.E. Jack School. The BSP will not be held on any unscheduled late arrival days (such as those due to weather). Children attending Edna Libby and Steep Falls Schools will be transported from G.E. Please call the office at 642-2875 if you would like this option added to your account.Fees and Payment Information:Automatic monthly payments will be set up when registering to have your credit/debit card charged on the first of each month automatically. The Parks & Recreation Department should be notified if the payment information needs to be updated should your card expire or need to be changed for any reason.  Declined payments must be corrected as soon as notification is sent and failure to make payments on past due balances could result in suspension from the program. Cancellation/Refund Policy:Written notice is required two weeks prior to the desired withdrawal date. A refund will be issued at a pro-rated amount for the remainder of the program, beginning on the first day of the next monthly billing cycle. Any days remaining in the month of withdrawal will not be refunded. The Standish Active Seniors is a group of older adults from Standish and surrounding communities who regularly come together for friendly conversation, community, and social connection. Each meeting brings a new educational topic or entertainment.The group relies on its member volunteers to organize theme events, decorate for holidays, serve meals, plan events, and recruit new members to join. The Standish Parks & Recreation Department supports this group by providing lunches, planning trips and tours, and promoting activities.New members are always welcome! Join us! 9:30 AM - 10:00 AM    Tai Chi - Tai Chi
                  Tai Chi is a relaxing and gentle exercise program. It uses slow, multi-directional movements to tone muscles, increase flexibility, improve balance, and to enhance the immune system. Tai Chi also reduces stress and helps to quiet and focus the mind. Studies have shown that it is effective in reducing blood pressure. There are many articles you can research online regarding it's benefits. Tai Chi practice is the recommended exercise for people with MS, Parkinson's Disease, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Daily practice gives an enhanced feeling of well-being.These classes are in the tradition of Chen Man Ching and Silk Reeling Chi Gong in the tradition of Grand Master Feng.Registration prior to class is mandatory and will be accepted at Town Hall or on-line at www.standishrec.com until the Wednesday before the class is held.  Anyone wishing to register after the 8-week session begins will be charged for the entire class or a pro-rated fee of $8.00/class for the remainder of that session, whichever is lower.Please note: If school for MSAD 6 is cancelled due to weather, class will be cancelled and the session will be extended out another week.Date: ThursdaysTime: 9:30 - 10:30 amCost: 8 week session $54 or drop in $8 per classInstructor: Albert Delaney Covid-19 vaccination and masks required.         We're back together again (INSIDE)!We have returned to the Standish Municipal Center at the Sebago Lake Room. Registration MUST be done online, no cash accepted in person. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding!Dancers of all levels are encouraged to participate-it is a great form of exercise, not to mention a lot of fun! Registration prior to class is mandatory and will be accepted on-line or over the phone at 642-2875. Anyone wishing to register after the session begins will be charged a pro-rated fee of $8/class for the remainder of the session. Single class rate: $8 per class - PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST register prior to the class. NO payments will be taken by the instructor.                    Deb's School Year Cancellation/Weather Cancellation Policy: As a general rule, if the weather is bad and school is cancelled for MSAD6 we will NOT have class. Also, if there is a 1 or 2 hour delay, there will NOT be a class because I will still be on my bus. You can listen to the tv or check school cancellations on line.                   Tai Chi is a relaxing and gentle exercise program. It uses slow, multi-directional movements to tone muscles, increase flexibility, improve balance, and to enhance the immune system. Tai Chi also reduces stress and helps to quiet and focus the mind. Studies have shown that it is effective in reducing blood pressure. There are many articles you can research online regarding it's benefits. Tai Chi practice is the recommended exercise for people with MS, Parkinson's Disease, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding!Dancers of all levels are encouraged to participate-it is a great form of exercise, not to mention a lot of fun! Registration prior to class is mandatory and will be accepted on-line or over the phone at 642-2875. Anyone wishing to register after the session begins will be charged a pro-rated fee of $8/class for the remainder of the session. It uses slow, multi-directional movements to tone muscles, increase flexibility, improve balance, and to enhance the immune system. Tai Chi also reduces stress and helps to quiet and focus the mind. Studies have shown that it is effective in reducing blood pressure. There are many articles you can research online regarding it's benefits. Tai Chi practice is the recommended exercise for people with MS, Parkinson's Disease, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Community Center Steering Committee The Community Center Steering Committee (CCSC) is being formed by the Standish Town Council to support the Town’s consultant through the community center feasibility study process. The CCSC will have the data and analysis from previous studies available as a resource and baseline. The final design plan will address definitive uses, location, design attributes, and cost analysis. Through this process, the CCSC will guide the consultant’s recommendations to the Council and provide input to Town staff for a capital campaign strategy to implement the project. Final approval for the project will be decided by voters at the November 2020 election. The Committee will determine its chairperson and how best to structure the frequency and format of its meetings. The Parks & Recreation Department will serve as a resource to the Committee. The Committee’s final recommendations will be submitted to the Council on a date to be determined, no later than July 2020, at which time, the committee will be dissolved.Supporting Resources:Several data collection efforts and preliminary studies have been completed and will inform the work of the Committee. In addition, a qualified consulting firm has been hired to conduct a feasibility study for the purpose of facilitating the process and providing necessary cost estimates, architectural and design support services, and summary report to the Committee. The Town Manager, the Parks & Recreation Director, and other Town staff will support the Committee as needed. 9:30 AM - 10:00 AM    Tai Chi - Tai Chi
                  Tai Chi is a relaxing and gentle exercise program. It uses slow, multi-directional movements to tone muscles, increase flexibility, improve balance, and to enhance the immune system. Tai Chi also reduces stress and helps to quiet and focus the mind. Studies have shown that it is effective in reducing blood pressure. There are many articles you can research online regarding it's benefits. Tai Chi practice is the recommended exercise for people with MS, Parkinson's Disease, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Daily practice gives an enhanced feeling of well-being.These classes are in the tradition of Chen Man Ching and Silk Reeling Chi Gong in the tradition of Grand Master Feng.Registration prior to class is mandatory and will be accepted at Town Hall or on-line at www.standishrec.com until the Wednesday before the class is held.  Anyone wishing to register after the 8-week session begins will be charged for the entire class or a pro-rated fee of $8.00/class for the remainder of that session, whichever is lower.Please note: If school for MSAD 6 is cancelled due to weather, class will be cancelled and the session will be extended out another week.Date: ThursdaysTime: 9:30 - 10:30 amCost: 8 week session $54 or drop in $8 per classInstructor: Albert Delaney Covid-19 vaccination and masks required. Late Arrival Days: The Before School Program WILL BE HELD on the district's 9 scheduled late arrival days and is included in the fee for those registered to attend the Before School Program.  Children enrolled in the After School Program are eligible to register for the 9 late arrival days for a fee of $135.00, to be paid in full at time of registration. Please call the office at 642-2875 if you would like this option added to your account.Fees and Payment Information:Automatic monthly payments will be set up when registering to have your credit/debit card charged on the first of each month automatically. The Parks & Recreation Department should be notified if the payment information needs to be updated should your card expire or need to be changed for any reason.  Declined payments must be corrected as soon as notification is sent and failure to make payments on past due balances could result in suspension from the program. Cancellation/Refund Policy:Written notice is required two weeks prior to the desired withdrawal date. A refund will be issued at a pro-rated amount for the remainder of the program, beginning on the first day of the next monthly billing cycle. Any days remaining in the month of withdrawal will not be refunded. We strive to offer children a program that is affordable, fun and safe. One of the key elements of this program is “play!" Through play, children increase their social competence and emotional maturity. Activities will include indoor and outdoor sports, group games, arts & crafts, music, dance and occasional field trips. Each day quiet time will also be offered for participants to complete daily homework.A parent handbook has been prepared for your convenience. It informs you of our policies and procedures as well as to provide valuable information to help you to navigate the many details involved with this program.  We ask that you keep this handbook in a handy place for easy reference, or please find a copy on our website (below) for your convenience. Join Gail in the Sebago Lake Room for a evening of watercolor play. We will learn a few tips for working with watercolor media, practice different brush strokes,  then Gail will lead participants step-by-step to create a 5x7 painting.Each participant will have the opportunity to make note cards from their paintings if they wish.   No experience necessary!  All supplies included.
